A good weight loss diet is one which not just takes off the weight but keeps it off. With the effort of loosing weight there has to be a change in ones lifestyle and this should be a healthy well balanced life style so that after getting on to a successful weight loss diet you have to learn and manage to keep it off and maintain it at a point which you find comfortable and healthy. If there is a choice of loosing weight with a low carb diet and a low GI diet, you will have to weigh the pros and cons and also the amount of weight that a person has to loose.
If there is a special occasion coming up in the near future and the person needs to get into shape in time for it, a much faster weight loss plan may be required and for this of the two the low carb diet would prove to be more beneficial as a weight loss diet. A low carb diet restricts the intake of carbohydrates like bread, rice, wheat, cereals, potatoes and other foods which are high in carbohydrates and starch. The person is put on a high protein diet with more of meats, eggs and green leafy vegetables and this results in a huge amount of weight loss in the first few weeks. Fruits are also restricted as there is a certain amount of sugar content in these, but vegetables are not restricted. As all carbohydrates are restricted almost completely the person looses a lot of weight but after a while the blood sugar levels start dropping and there is excessive craving for all the restricted foods and the person may go on a binge and put on all the weight which was lost in the first few weeks. This is an emergency weight loss diet after which the person will have to get onto a healthy weight loss diet which changes the eating habits completely and results in a permanent control of the weight.
A low GI weight loss diet is far more permanent than a low carb diet but much slower. With this weight loss diet the person concentrates on eating carbs which have a low glycemic index and sustain the persons hunger levels for much longer. The weight loss diet of eating such foods is slow but more consistent. The low GI carbs are digested slowly and keep the sugar levels in the blood consistent so that the person does not have sudden cravings and go on a binge which results in gaining the weight which had been reduced earlier. The foods in a low GI diet have more of fiber and contain plenty of vitamins, antioxidants and minerals. The foods are such that they give you a lot more nutrients and less of fat building foods which result in weight gain. The low carb weight loss diet is difficult for vegetarians, as the main substance which sustains people on this diet is proteins which are lacking in a vegetarian diet. However, a low GI weight loss diet is much easier for a vegetarian to stick to as there is a lot of choice of foods for them which will maintain good blood sugar levels and give them all the nutrients they require. This does not cause any sudden cravings for food and binges.
